3 Years Jail, 600-1,000 Dinar Fines After Court Referral

KUWAIT CITY : In a move to enhance road safety and curb traffic violations, the Ministry of Interior has announced stringent new penalties for drivers who run red lights. Starting April 22, 2025, individuals convicted of this offense will face imprisonment for up to 3 years, a fine ranging from 600 to 1,000 dinars, or both.


The ministry emphasized that these measures aim to deter reckless driving and reduce accidents caused by disregarding traffic signals. Running red lights has been a persistent issue, often leading to severe collisions, injuries, and fatalities. The new penalties reflect the government’s commitment to enforcing stricter traffic laws and ensuring safer roads for all.

For those seeking to settle their violations without going to court, the ministry has set a settlement fee of 150 dinars. This option allows drivers to resolve their cases promptly, provided they pay the fee before being referred to the judiciary.
