The Supreme Committee for Nationality Investigation in Kuwait is currently reviewing national identity files as part of efforts to withdraw nationalities from individuals who do not meet the necessary criteria.

According to a government source reported by Al-Rai, about 32,000 naturalized wives of Kuwaitis, who were granted citizenship under Article (8), are among those whose nationalities may be revoked.

The Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Nationality, chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior, H. E. Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, has decided to withdraw Kuwaiti nationality from 4,246 cases.

These withdrawals include; 20 cases of dual citizenship, 89 cases of fraud and forgery, one case involving the children of a Kuwaiti woman, and 4,136 cases under Article (8) from individuals originating from 54 different countries.

The source anticipated that the review of Article (8) files would be completed by the end of January, emphasizing that the committee will continue its weekly work to audit all cases, including those involving forgery, dual citizenship, and other irregularities. The committee aims to establish appropriate standards to assess eligibility for Kuwaiti citizenship carefully.

Moreover, the committee emphasized that there will be no compromise on the national identity file, asserting that efforts will continue to uphold the sanctity of citizenship as a bond of loyalty and belonging, not a means for benefits and gains, until all files related to Kuwaiti citizenship are thoroughly cleaned and verified.

The source highlighted that for any nationality file where a single case of forgery is proven, the entire file, including all individuals registered under it, will be audited thoroughly to ensure its integrity, noting that someone who forges once is likely to have committed similar violations multiple times.

Furthermore, the source urged anyone aware of forgery in their nationality file, such as individuals falsely registered as sons or brothers of their father, to voluntarily come forward to the competent authorities and disclose the truth. Doing so, the source noted, could help them avoid criminal responsibility.
