MoI gets tough as more visit visa violators

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 5, (Agencies): The Ministry of Interior has referred a Jordanian expatriate and his family for deportation for breaching the visit visa conditions. According to a press statement issued by the ministry, this step is based on a decision taken last month by the ministry to deport visit visa violators and their sponsors. It explained that the Jordanian expatriate had brought his wife and children to Kuwait on family visit visas. However, they stayed beyond the allowed visit period, which is not only a violation of the visit visa conditions but also a violation of the pledge the sponsor signed when he applied for a family visit visa. Hence, necessary legal measures were taken for the deportation of the sponsor and his visiting family, even though his residency is still valid.

The Ministry of Interior affirmed its commitment to taking necessary legal measures against those who do not comply with the law. It emphasized that it will spare no effort in holding violators accountable, including both sponsors and their sponsored individuals. The Ministry of Interior stressed that all visitors are required to adhere strictly to the specified time limit for their visit and must leave the country upon the expiry of their visit visa in order to avoid facing legal consequences.

Last month, several visit visa holders, along with their visa sponsors, were referred for deportation for exceeding their legal stay in the country. The Ministry of Interior had revealed that a group of women residing in the country obtained visit visas for their husbands and children, using which the latter entered the country.

However, these visitors had exceeded their legal stay period. This was discovered by the General Department of Residency Affairs Investigations’ Department of Violators Follow-up, and other concerned authorities after following up these cases. Consequently, legal actions had been initiated in preparation for the deportation of the sponsors – the women – and the sponsored – their husbands and children – for failing to abide by the pledge that was signed when applying for the family visit visa and for violating the relevant conditions. It stated that its decision was based on directives issued by His Excellency the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah.
