KUWAIT CITY, Jan 21: The Health Affairs Committee is convening a meeting with the participation of experts from the Ministry of Finance and the General Investment Authority to discuss two notable legislative proposals. The first proposal pertains to the enactment of a law governing health care services, while the second focuses on establishing the “Dawakum” zone dedicated to pharmaceutical industries and medical equipment and their storage facilities, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

The primary objective of the health care proposal is to enhance the quality of health services in the country while concurrently alleviating the financial burden on the state budget. The proposed law is grounded in principles of administrative reform, aiming to enhance fairness within the health sector and extend health coverage to all citizens and expats. Among its key provisions, the proposal mandates health insurance for all individuals residing in Kuwait. This includes citizens, whose costs are covered by the state, expatriates whose expenses are borne by employers or sponsors, and visitors who must secure health insurance before entering the country.

The overarching goal is to ensure comprehensive health coverage for everyone, contributing to administrative efficiency and a fair healthcare system. The second proposal seeks to establish the “Dawakum” zone, primarily focusing on achieving drug security, diversifying sources of income, generating employment opportunities for Kuwaiti citizens, and enhancing the proficiency of the national workforce engaged in the health sector. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of promoting economic growth, self-sufficiency, and sustainability in the pharmaceutical and medical equipment industries.
