Kuwait City; Government agencies have agreed to inform banks of this before the authorities issue any decision to dismiss non-Kuwaiti employees. This is to help banks deal early with any loans taken by retrenched expatriate workers. Government agencies have also agreed to inform various service ministries, such as the Ministry of Power and Water, which are in direct contact with residents. The decision was made to notify banks of terminated non-Kuwaiti employees and to secure loans. The objective is to protect the bank's finances by suspending the accounts of employees to prevent such employees from leaving the country without clearing their debts. The scheme also envisages the possibility of co-ordinating with the employers of retrenched expatriate employees to collect their dues and protecting the bank by deducting the outstanding dues from the severance pay credited to an employee's account with the bank. There have been some instances in the past of expatriate employees leaving the country after termination of service to government agencies without payment of dues, prompting these agencies to file lawsuits in their home countries.
