Kuwait City: It is reported that nearly two lakh driving licenses granted to expatriates in previous years in Kuwait may be withdrawn. For this, the Transport Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs has started verification of driving license files. Part of controlling traffic congestion in the country is issuing driver's licenses to foreigners and rigorously checking the legal validity of existing ones. The action was taken after Deputy Prime Minister, Defense Minister and Acting Interior Minister Sheikh Talal Al Khalid directed to check all such files. About 1.4 lakh driving licenses are estimated to have been issued in the country, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs. Of these, about 800,000 driving licenses are in the name of expatriates. About 23 lakh vehicles are registered in the country. Many of these vehicle owners have not yet applied for driver's license renewal, either because they have lost their legal status to obtain a license, or because they have died or left the country. But their names are still present in the traffic computer system, sources in the ministry said.
