The Ministry of Information announced that the Committee to Regulate Advertising in Social Media and Augmented Reality (Virtual) in Kuwait will set executive rules, including legal regulations and relevant terminology, for (virtual) electronic advertising. The committee held its first meeting with representatives of competent government institutions under the chairmanship of Acting Deputy Minister of Information Mohammad Bin Naji.

Ministry spokesperson Anwar Murad said the committee will work to set executive rules to regulate this electronic advertising with legal and regulatory controls. He noted that the work of the committee is in accordance with the regulatory, legal, commercial and professional requirements to protect the rights of consumers, in response to the desire of advertising actors on social networking sites to organize this electronic commercial and creative activity.

Murad noted that the regulations the Electronic Advertising Regulatory Committee is working to issue generally include the advertiser's permission to submit advertising materials and mention the name of the advertised product or service and the name of the service provider.

Its list of restrictions would include that the ad should not contain any allegations or phrases that are misleading or false to the consumer, and should not advertise a fake or fraudulent product or any trademark that the advertiser does not have the right to use. The committee includes representatives from the Press, Publishing and Publishing Sector, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Communications and Information Technology Public Authority, Fatwa and Legislation, Kuwait Municipality, Electronic Crime Department and Electronic Publishing.
