The Environmental Police Department, affiliated with the Security Directorates Affairs Sector, conducted an intensive field campaign at Al-Mubarakiya Market to monitor and address environmental violations.

The campaign resulted in 30 violations for smoking in prohibited enclosed and semi-enclosed areas, one violation for littering, and a violation against an establishment for allowing patrons to smoke inside its premises. Legal measures were taken against all violators.

The Ministry of Interior said through its Instagram account that the campaign forms part of its ongoing efforts to enforce the Environmental Protection Law, curb unlawful practices, and preserve public cleanliness and the civilized appearance of the country.

The Ministry explained that the inspection focused on detecting smoking violations in enclosed and semi-enclosed spaces, as well as the improper disposal of waste in areas not designated for that purpose.

Under the law, smoking in enclosed or semi-enclosed spaces carries a fine of KD 50 to KD 100, while establishments that allow smoking on their premises face fines ranging from KD 1,000 to KD 5,000. Littering is punishable by a fine ranging from KD 50 to KD 500.

The Ministry called on everyone to comply fully with the Environmental Protection Law and refrain from smoking in prohibited areas to avoid legal accountability and financial penalties.
