KUWAIT CITY, Jun 22: Kuwait International Airport has gradually restored operations to advanced levels after damage caused by what officials described as a “heinous Iranian attack” on the airport and its facilities, Acting Director General of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation Engineer Duaij Al-Otaibi said.
Al-Otaibi said the Civil Aviation Authority is continuing repair, maintenance, and rehabilitation work at the airport under the supervision and follow-up of the authority’s chairman, Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al-Hamoud Al-Sabah , and in line with the directives of Minister of Defense Sheikh Abdullah Ali Al-Sabah .
Al-Otaibi said the authority, with the efforts of its employees and the support of the political leadership, was able to overcome the repercussions of the attack and restore air traffic to good operational levels.
“The authority continues to work to repair the damage caused to the airport building and its facilities,” he said, noting that operational levels have begun to rise as air traffic and the number of incoming and outgoing flights increase.
He added that the Civil Aviation Authority had carried out repair work on airport buildings and infrastructure following the directives of the defense minister. He said workers had overcome major challenges and that the airport had been prepared and equipped to resume operations.
Air traffic is now witnessing a clear improvement, with the number of arriving and departing flights reaching around 190 flights per day , Al-Otaibi said. He added that many airlines have been allowed to resume operations and that flight numbers are expected to increase further once maintenance, rehabilitation, and equipment work at the main passenger terminal, Terminal 1 , is completed.
Al-Otaibi praised the efforts of civil aviation employees and volunteers, saying they played a key role in restoring airport operations and serving Kuwait during the emergency period.
He also expressed appreciation for the support and cooperation of the Ministry of Interior , the General Administration of Customs , Kuwait Airways , Jazeera Airways , KAFCO , and all partners and service providers operating at Kuwait International Airport.
Al-Otaibi thanked Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority for its cooperation and continued support for Kuwait’s Civil Aviation Authority. He also voiced appreciation for the backing of Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Arab states.
He said Kuwait had succeeded in presenting its legal and technical position before the International Civil Aviation Organization and securing international support confirming the validity of its position regarding the attacks that targeted Kuwait International Airport.
Al-Otaibi said this support helped preserve Kuwait’s rights and confirmed that serious violations and breaches of international agreements had occurred.
