The Kuwaiti Cabinet has formed a five-member committee headed by Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef to address the widespread issue of random parking in Open Grounds across the country.

According to Al Jarida Arabic Newspaper report, the decision came following a briefing by Al-Yousef on the increasing use of dirt yards, school parking areas, mosque surroundings and other open spaces in various governorates for the unregulated parking of vehicles, heavy equipment and machinery.

According to report, the Cabinet considered the situation a distortion of Kuwait’s public appearance and civilized image, warning that it also poses traffic and environmental challenges that require urgent government intervention.

The committee includes the ministers of Public Works, Municipal Affairs and Housing, Economic Affairs and Investment, and Finance. It will also be allowed to seek assistance from relevant government entities and experts.

Under the Cabinet’s directive, the committee will study the current conditions caused by the random use of dirt lots for parking, intensify oversight efforts, and take the necessary measures to regulate parking in a proper and safe manner. The committee will also work towards establishing multi-story parking facilities as part of long-term solutions.

The committee is required to submit a report to the Cabinet every two months detailing the measures and progress made on the issue.
