The Civil Service Council has approved a proposal to reduce working hours in government agencies during the summer months from seven hours to six hours daily as part of efforts to rationalize electricity consumption and support the stability of the national power grid.

According to informed sources, the measure comes within a broader government plan aimed at reducing electricity loads during peak summer hours, particularly between 11 am and 5 pm, when factories also begin reducing production operations to lower energy consumption.

Sources said the proposal is part of coordinated efforts among government agencies to ensure continuity of electricity services amid rising temperatures and increased demand during the summer season.

Under the proposed plan, the reduced working hours would remain in effect for three months during the summer.

The Civil Service Commission is expected to announce the implementation procedures and operational mechanism in the coming period.

According to the proposal, the flexible morning attendance period would be limited to one hour only, from 7 am until 8 am, while evening shifts would begin at 5 pm.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy continues implementing multiple measures aimed at rationalizing electricity and water consumption to address the challenges posed by extreme summer temperatures and increasing demand for utilities.

The ministry also stressed the importance of promoting responsible consumption habits as part of a national effort to preserve energy resources and maintain grid stability during peak periods.
