The Capital Governorate Traffic Patrol Department on Tuesday carried out an intensive traffic campaign targeting delivery motorcycles and vehicles found parking or driving on sidewalks designated for pedestrians.

Colonel Fahd Al-Essa, Director of the Traffic Awareness Department at the General Directorate of Traffic, said the campaign resulted in the issuance of 120 traffic violations, while 17 offending motorcycles were referred to the impound lot.

Al-Essa stressed that the campaign aims to protect pedestrian safety and prevent encroachment on sidewalks, particularly to safeguard the elderly, children and people with special needs.

He noted that some delivery bike and vehicle drivers have recently been using sidewalks to bypass traffic congestion, posing direct risks to pedestrians and exposing them to serious injuries. The campaign, he added, is part of ongoing efforts to enforce traffic laws, regulate road use and curb dangerous practices that disrupt public safety.
